My dance with Atha

I’m a procrastinating entrepreneur.

I love creating stuff. Shipping a new PracticeNow feature. Sharing a new blog post. Attracting new customers in delightful ways.

I dream about a great future when it’s all done.

Then I hear the clock ticking. It’s getting closer.

The time to start on the blog post. To pick up the phone and call a new customer. To design that new feature.

My muscles start to tense. My breaths are short. I can’t bear the stress anymore.

And then…I open Whatsapp. A friend just sent a funny cat video. Yay!

Tension relieved.

Atha Yoga Anushasanam

That’s the first Yoga Sutra of Pathanjali.

Literally translated, it means “Now, the practice of Yoga begins”

So..the very first word of the very first sutra of the most important Yoga Text is Now

Let’s fast forward 2000 years and listen to Eckhart Tolle:

“To the ego, the present moment hardly exists. Only the past and future are considered important.”

So..the one place you cannot find the ego..the root cause of our misery..is “now”?!

Or as Master Shifu says: “Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift, that’s why it’s called the present” – Kung Fu Panda

Watching the Whatsapp cat videos relieves my tension. But it doesn’t make me happy.

It’s only when I dance with the “now”, to breathe deeply and face my fears..that I can move forward, create and grow peacefully.

One foot in front of the other. One feature after another. One blog post after another. One day, one hour, one minute at a time.

And “now”, it’s time for me to hit publish. 🙂
